Step-by-step Instruction
Launch The Mop
Usually The Mop launches itself automatically together with Windows operating system. If The Mop is running The Mop's icon can be found in system tray. Simply double click this icon to restore The Mop's main window.
But in some cases The Mop is unable to launch itseld and you have to launch The Mop manually according the following instruction. Click the "Start" button first, then click the "All programs" to expand the list of program groups. Since the list is expanded find "The Mop" group and click "The Mop" command.
Step 1
First of all the scanning type should be selected. Express is high speed scanning suitable for everyday use; The Mop will search for junk in some special folders only. Regular scanning takes more time than express scanning but The Mop will search for junk in all folders; it is recommended to use regular scanning at least weekly. Thorough scanning is very slow but The Mop will try to find 100% of junk; it is assumed that thorough scanning will be performed monthly.
The button (Alt+D keyboard shortcut) opens the Disk list window.
button (Alt+N keyboard shortcut) starts scanning (see Step 2).
Step 2
Left pane displays the brief statistics of scanning process; the most important figures are shown only. To view full version of statistcs click the button.
Right pane is dedicated to selection of the removal type. Move junk to Recycle Bin radio button forces The Mop to move junk files and folders to system Recycle Bin. Items detected as junk by error and removed to Recycle Bin can simply restored using standard Windows Explorer. Permanent removal from hard disk radio button forces The Mop to remove junk items permanently. Such items cannot be undeleted using Windows Explorer but can be restored using special third party software. Use strong erase radio button forces The Mop to use special technique of shredding files before removal. In some cases third party software can restore shredded files but they will be unusable and will contain no information.
The button (Alt+D keyboard shortcut) opens the Scanning results window.
button (Alt+N keyboard shortcut) starts junk removal process (see Step 3). To protect you from accidental file removal you will be prompted to confirm your intention to delete detected files and folders. Also if you're using Microsoft® Windows® Vista or Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system you will be prompted to elevate The Mop's rights.
button (Alt+B keyboard shortcut) discards all scanning results and brings back to Step 1 (see above). No files or folders will be deleted. button (Alt+S keyboard shortcut) interrupts disk scanning; probably some junk files will be undiscovered until next scanning.
Step 3
Left pane displays the brief statistics of cleaning process; the most important figures are shown only. To view full version of statistcs click the button.
The button (Alt+D keyboard shortcut) opens the Disk cleaning results window.
button (Alt+S keyboard shortcut) interrupts disk cleaning; probably some junk items will remain undeleted until next cleaning.
button (Alt+S keyboard shortcut) brings to the Step 1 (see above).
How To Repeat
Generally you can click the button on Step 3 to start cleaning your computer once again. But The Mop has been designed to minimize your actions: simply close The Mop's main window. The Mop will remain running in backgound. If the amount of junk exceeds some threshold level The Mop will suggest to perform cleaning.
